Grandpa's Quilt

This spring I got to make this BEAUTIFUL quilt for my dear great grandpa Leonard.

I have wanted to make this quilt for a long time and this was the perfect excuse!

The idea came from a quilt a a dear friend's house.

I have stared at that quilt for a LONG time and finally drew up the blocks on graph paper.

Now, i finally got to make it!

I want to make one for me now!

Recent Sewing Projects

I made these quilts for the care center. The Christmas one somebody gave me the top already made so I just tied and bound it. the other one I am NOT showing you!! I was experimenting with a pattern for the top and it didn't turn out. I think it is going to go to a blind lady!

This is my first try at triangles, I need to finish quilting it. On the left side you can kind of see the lines of the quilting. this one is also for the care center.

These are some snowball bocks sewn together that I am making for a quilt top. I really like the colors and the pattern so far. this one will go to the care center.

I made this bag with the scraps from juice boxes

Maybe next time I will put some pockets in the inside or something to fancy it up a little bit more.

I really love how  the back turned out! I really like this stripes fabric, I found probably around ten yards of it in a shed at the land(who would of thought!) I am sad that it is almost gone. I also used it for the back of Juice boxes. You can't tell but I machine quilted flowers barely overlaping on the back. I wish I had pieced and quilted the front piece as well, I just stuck the pieces together. 

This was a first attemt with this pattern, it was pretty east but takes practice. I'm glad that you can't see the mistakes in it bacause the lighting is bad. just don't look to close.

This is jsut a simple tube skirt that I made for easter with fabric from the DI. It took maybe 30 minutes so it was pretty fast.

I call this my Sense and Sensibility dress. Because that is what it looks like. When I wear it I usually tie a bright ribbon around it to give it color. I made it with a $2 sheet from the DI so it was cheap!! And the pattern was very simple.

Scripture bags

I had a couple of extra nine-patches from my spring quilt and so I made some bags. I have been wanting a new scripture bag for a while(the ones I have have a bunch of raw edges showing and they are worn out!!). I found a super easy tutorial of how to make your bags have no raw edges showing. You can find it here . I did adapt it, I basically just used the directions of how to get rid of the raw edges! I didn't measure the handles but after folding, ironing and sewing them you can't tell. One has really wide handles and one has super thin super long handles with a flower on it. The flower tutorial you can find here . I only used one color, I didn't measure and it and it still turned out okay.

Spring quilt

I have no idea what to "name" this one so it is the spring quilt!!! This one was really easy and fast(and fun!!!) I used two yards of white fabric and 2 charm packs. I love the quilting on this one and it took maybe 30 minutes. This was the first time I've quilted something bigger then a hot pad with cotton batting(if you were wondering, yes, it is polyester batting in Juice boxes). I really liked it. The back is a $5 flatsheet from Wal-Mart it is also the binding. The fabric is hulaboo by moda. I think it is more of what you'd see in a baby quilt but, I still love it!! Double click on the pictures to see the fabric better. And just to let you know(like you care) I really do not like doing bindings, they take forever and are just long and boring.

I finished it! In one of the pictures you can see a flower, I did flowers in every other block in like a checkered pattern.

I think I am thoroughly addicted to quilting, I already have another top 1/2 way finnished, oh boy!

Quilting

I have to tell you about this little obsession I have had lately...quilting! I have been loving to quilt lately, I FINALLY finished a twin sized quilt for my bed, I bought the fabric like two years ago and hadn't finished it, I was SUPER excited. It is just a easy 9-patch top with one of those fleece blankets from the DI for the back. with no batting! I also finished a fun baby quilt, pictures coming when we get home???? I have also been working on a SUPER fun one too, it is this pattern, slightly different and it is WAY different colors! And by the way, that site is awesome! So any way, pics soon! Oh, and I LOVE the textures of machine quilted quilts, you should feel them! Anyway, I will stop blubbering on now...

My last skirt and somthing else!

So, this is my last skirt, it turned out pretty well I think!!

And with the leftovers from all of them I made this really cute scripture bag I have wanted a new one for a while since my old one doesn't really have enough room for everything I need to take to church. And it is reversible, you can't really see in the picture(I tried!) , but the other side is the pattern from the green flower skirt and the handle fabric was leftover from the turquoise skirt.

I have fabric that is already cut out for another one I just have to sit down and do it! And find something to use as a handle since there isn't enough brown left(I think).
